Staying Safe

A FREE refresher course for older drivers run by Age Concern South Canterbury.

Even though you may have had many years of practical experience behind the wheel, this course will help you to understand:

  • the latest changes to road rules.
  • the biggest hazards that affect driving safety.
  • and how you can apply three crucial rules that will keep you and others safe on the roads.

Staying Safe is a FREE classroom course that will increase your confidence and knowledge and help you remain independent for longer.

A light lunch is provided. Bookings are essential – phone 03 687 7581 to reserve your place. 

Course Content Includes

The Age Concern Staying Safe Refresher Driving Course covers essential topics to help mature drivers stay confident and safe on the road. Participants will:

  • Review and update their knowledge of current road rules.
  • Enhance their understanding of merging traffic and navigating roundabouts.
  • Develop greater awareness of their surroundings, including what’s ahead, behind, and beside them while driving.
  • Recognize the importance of being alert, aware of other drivers’ actions, and practicing patience and courtesy.

Many participants find that the course helps them adapt to busier traffic conditions and reinforces safe driving habits. For older adults, driving is often key to maintaining independence, and this course encourages them to honestly assess their driving abilities for their safety and the safety of others on the road.
