Elder Abuse Awareness Week is Coming Up

Author: Ethan Pierce
Date: 25 May 2026

15–22 June

Elder Abuse Awareness Week is an important time to raise awareness, encourage conversations, and support older people in our community.

On average, 12 people reach out and ask for help about elder abuse to Age Concerns across the country. These are cases that services are actively working with, but we know there are many more situations that go unreported.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional, physical, or neglect. It can often be difficult to recognise, and even harder to speak up about.

Taking the first step can feel challenging, but it is important to know that support is available and you are not alone.

If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out:
Phone: 03 687 7581
Email: info@ageconcernsc.org.nz

We will be sharing more information, resources, and ways to get involved in the lead up to and throughout Elder Abuse Awareness Week (15–22 June), so please check back or follow along on our social media.
